Where we'd go for New Year's Eve if we were you More secret warehouse locations than a load of mafia meet-ups: here’s Dummy’s guide to New Year’s 2012.
If you’re still finding yourself locked in heated debates on where to end up this 31st December (if you’re anything like us then we’re guessing you still are), then here’s a Dummy-shaped helping hand. While most of the rounds of discounted tickets are nothing but a distant late-November memory, there are still plenty of places available for those willing to fork out, and a couple of gems out there for the more frugal among you. Happy New Year and all that!
- Regulate x Swamp 81 x NYE // The Lightbox & Protocol Complex, Vauxhall
Loefah, Boddika and Pinch are joined by seven other Swamp 81 names who’ll be going in deep in Room 1, while Room 2 hosts Shadow Child and Tessela (Hackney Parrot is going to go off). Tickets are now up to just under £40, but if you fancy seeing off 2012 through a murkier lens of the UK dancefloor, there’ll be no better place to be on this New Year’s Eve.
- Hydra: Border Community NYE // Warehouse Location TBA
Nathan Fake, Luke Abbott and Koreless are strong draws all promising live sets, while Border Community label boss James Holden headlines, naturally. Tickets are now at just under £30. If you’re planning on keeping it low key on the night itself, but find yourself ready to live it up on New Year’s Day, Broken & Uneven (the guys behind The Hydra parties) will host Mosca, Levon Vincent and Midland at, you guessed it, another to be confirmed warehouse location. Tickets are currently sitting at £15.
- Beat Dimension NYE // East London Warehouse TBA
The Beat Dimension New Years bash is looking solid, with South Yorkshire’s finest Blawan headlining proceedings, who’ll be joined by Untold and recently announced special guest Appleblim. With tickets currently hovering around the twenty quid mark, this could be an excellent choice for anyone hoping to have not fallen deep into the pits of their overdraft by the 1st January.
- DOLLOP NYE // The Troxy, Tower Hamlets (AND STEALTH – NOTTINGHAM)
Reliable promoters Dollop stay true to their London and Nottingham connections by throwing two parties on the same night. Julio Bashmore is the biggest draw at both events, while Jackmaster and Deadboy play London and Joy Orbison and Waif & Strays beef things up in Nottingham. Tickets for London or Nottingham will set you back £40.
- Urban Nerds NYE // The Sidings Warehouse, Southwark
The line-up for the Urban Nerds warehouse bash is pretty humungous: Marcus Nasty, Throwing Snow and Hackman are just a few of the confirmed names catching our watchful eyes. Tickets at £40 a pop.
- LWE & Jaded NYE // East London Warehouse TBA
One for the house heads: Moscow-based underground producer Nina Kraviz, who we interviewed in the spring, heads things up, along with UK names Mr. G and Raymundo Rodriguez. Tickets are currently £25 (plus a pesky booking fee).
- Eastern Electrics NYE 2012 // The Coronet Theatre, Elephant and Castle
Eastern Electrics went down a storm at their first festival at Area 12 in Greenwich way back in August, and they’ll be seeing off 2012 with a bang. Joy Orbison, Eats Everything and Huxley are a few names that jump out on the house and techno-centred line-up. Although if you can’t beg, steal or borrow your way in, you may feel this one has passed you by: the only available tickets are a second batch of VIP tickets priced at £70.
- Birthdays x GETME! NYE Party // Birthdays, Dalston
If you can’t be doing with this whole “secret location” malarkey, or just fancy celebrating in not-so-massive surroundings, then you could do a lot worse than heading to the first Birthdays New Year’s party in Dalston. Hyperdub boss Kode 9 and labelmate Scratcha DVA are the main draw downstairs, while House of Trax will be among those keeping things grooving on the top floor. Resident DJ Jet Letts has also put together a promotional mix to gear you up for the big night. Advance tickets now at £15, and you’ll pay an extra fiver to get them on the door.
- NYE ‘BUTTERZ’ TAKEOVER // Basement 45, Bristol
The Butterz crew are heading to Brizzle for their NY rave – with Swindle, Royal-T and Elijah & Skilliam representing way out West. Foundation:Bristol run things in Room 2. Tickets are still available for £15.
- Optimo Hogmanay 2012 // The Glue Factory, Glasgow
Optimo return to the The Glue Factory (which you guessed it, is an old glue factory) for their second year in a row, with Goa-via-Glasgow Sub Club resident Auntie Flo promising a live set. Tickets at £20 plus booking fee.
- La Cheetah & Vitamins: Hogamanay 2012 // La Cheetah, Glasgow
Vitamins, the innovative club collective who we featured back in March, have joined with La Cheetah club “to bring in the bells in true Glaswegian style”. Detroit legend Terence Parker headlines, along with the lads from Offbeat. Tickets at £20.
- Deadly Rhythm x I Hate Fun NYE // Chambre 69, Glasgow
S-Type tops the bill (place your bets on the number of rewinds for Billboard), along with Mermaids and Dummy’s own Codeine Drums (AKA Lauren Martin). Early bird tickets are still going for a tenner.
- NYE with Greg Wilson // 2022NQ, Manchester
For those with their hearts still in the 80s, Liverpool-born, Manchester electro godfather Greg Wilson plays a 3 hour set at 2022 North Quarter. It’ll be twenty quid on the door.
- Hit & Run NYE // Sound Control, Manchester
We can think of worse ways of welcoming in 2013 than in the company of Nu Brand Flexx member and innovative grime producer Darq E Freaker. Deep Medi Musik’s Commodo will also put in a 90 minute shift. There’s still some advanced tickets going for just over £5, so you’re advised to act fast if this one is for you.
- New Years Eve with Rob Ellis/Bez/Shaun Ryder // Tiger Tiger, Manchester
Squint your eyes tight enough and Tiger Tiger might just transform into the Hacienda, circa 1988. Maybe for a moment at least. The Happy Mondays duo promise to welcome in 2013 with a particularly Mancunian bang: advanced tickets are still going for £20, plus a booking fee.
