The 10 best UK Funky tracks, according to Champion One of the original UK Funky DJs takes us through his 10 essential tracks of the genre.

UK Funky pioneer Champion is set to join a huge line-up at South London’s Cable next weekend to celebrate Butterz’s third birthday. In the mean time, he’s listed his 10 favourite UK Funky tracks to keep you moving until then.

  1. Yasmin – You, Me, She (DJ Naughty Mix)
Champion: “One of my absolute favourite vocals in UK Funky even though it never really took off due to it being unreleased. I was one of the lucky few to have it.”
  2. Funkystepz – Bounce
Champion: “One of the first tunes to blow Funkystepz, I remember first hearing it on Marcus Nasty’s Westwood TV feature – BIG tune!”
  3. LR Groove – Key (first track)
Champion: “Another bad boy tune that I first heard on the Westwood TV feature, real funky heads know.”
  4. Ill Blu – Blu Magic
Champion: “One of the biggest UK Funky tracks to date, my dubplate still gets a regular spin in my sets – big up Ill Blu.”
  5. Booda ft Becky Rhodes – Secrets (T2 Funky remix)
Champion: “Quite an undercover tune but I love it. People that followed my Youtube sets back in the day will know about this one.”
  6. DJ Naughty – 5th Gear
Champion: “Another big tune from Naughty, he was the man when it came to making UK Funky sound like Reggae – timeless!”
  7. Diamond ft Terri Walker – Love At First Sight
Champion: “One of the few vocal tracks that stood out for me in UK Funky – if you ever catch me doing a 90 minute set, you will definitely hear this one.”
  8. DVA ft Fatima – Just Vybe (Soule Power Mix)
Champion: “Big tune from Scratcha DVA, again still sounds as big as it did when I first heard as DJ Pioneer’s Triple P on Kiss!”
  9. Boris Dlugosch – Bangkok (Roska Remix)
Champion: “Absolutely big remix that I felt was ahead of its time slightly, very big personal favourite from Roska.”
  10. Apple – Amirah Sleeps
Champion: “A gem from Apple that never came out and he hardly even sent out to DJs, to the point that I STILL dont have a copy, but one of my all time favourite UK Funky tracks. To this day I still play a bootleg of this by DJ Anticx called Rubik’s Cube – BIG tune.”

Champion will be at Butterz’s third birthday party at Cable London with Joker, Swindle and more; for more information and tickets go here.
