The Heatwave Presents Showtime Premier UK dancehall and bashment soundsystem release feature-length documentary bigging up the scene.
Earlier this summer the top radio hosts, producers and promoters The Heatwave threw a party to celebrate Britain’s rich dancehall heritage. Showtime, directed by Rollo Jackson perhaps best known for his lovingly crafted oral history of jungle Tape Crackers, is the DVD of the live show featuring both on-stage footage and interviews with the organisers and performers.
With a heavyweight line-up including the likes of General Levy, Wiley and Stush Showtime champions dancehall culture in the UK and the huge but sometimes overlooked influence of the genre in the development of drum & bass, jungle and grime. Featuring some of the best UK MCs over the biggest riddims of the past 30 or so years and packed full of wheel-ups and air horns the DVD is a fine education and, most importantly, great entertainment.
