Maria Minerva - Never Give Up Maria Minerva journeys into the nether regions of her own mind on her surrealist new video.
Though the word ‘surreal’ is nowadays used as a shorthand term to refer to anything a bit odd or unusual, the original surrealist movement was in fact interested in using art to express the workings of the subconscious mind, crossing the bridge between dream and reality. Often the results were odd or unusual, but also very playful. In the video for her discordant Never Give Up, Maria Minerva takes a journey into the nether regions of her own mind and produces a surrealist video that juxtaposes various images in seemingly nonsensical ways. It’s playfully obtuse, feeling like turn-of-the-90s Lynch, if turn-of-the-90s Lynch had been shot and edited on a zero budget.
