Premiere: Bodhi - Culture The Cardiff house duo splatter us with colour on a new video from their forthcoming EP.
The guys behind Bodhi are Luke Welsby and Olly Howells, who make brash, sweaty house music – and whose blissful rework of the xx’s Angels has racked up just under 300,000 spins on Soundcloud. In September, their ‘SY/Emanation’ EP came out on Push & Run – the reliable London label responsible for Ifan Dafydd’s debut release – and are following things up with a new EP on Grizzly next week.
From the EP, here’s a first look at the video for Culture, a track with soulful piano stabs, a shuffling beat and playful vocals reaching for hands-in-the-air dancefloor abandon. The video conjures swathes of kaleidoscopic colour and twinkling light, as well as featuring a rather freaky projected face onto a dancer in a morph suit. After your eyes have dined out on the vibrant clip, scroll down for a quick Q&A we had with Luke and Olly.
Hey Bodhi, what have you been up to recently?
We’ve been working on fresh material and remixes, and also playing out around the UK. Trying to build on this throughout 2013.
How would you describe your sound to the Dummy readers?
That’s a tough one really. Our sound has obvious house foundations whilst adding our own spin to it. We try to aim and keep a solid groove throughout our music and leave an impression on people.
*We’re loving the colour-splattered video for Culture. Could you talk us through how it came together?+
We basically have a great bunch of mates who offered to create a video for Culture. Very talented guys who work under the guises ‘Next Door Films’ and ‘SnowSkull’. We gave them a rough idea of what we had visually in our head and between them they managed to portray it really well in this video.
Any artists/club nights/general goings-on in Cardiff you want to big up?
Cardiff has new club nights popping up all the time with some pretty big line ups which is great. Also a new label YCO putting out its first release ‘It’s Quite (Overpowering)’ which is out very soon. Big track!
Some artists worth checking out from Cardiff: CRST, Blured, The Organ Grinder, Jauge, Stagga, Monky, Dirty Dice.
Grizzly will release the ‘Culture/Deliquesce’ EP on the 4th February
