Washington DC’s Shy Glizzy really deserves more than a passing mention on our recent guide to some of the city’s very best talent, but lists are lists and don’t always have the space to accommodate absolutely everyone.
Anyway, the lively and at times volatile rapper, whose very best qualities also got him involved in disputes that proved distractions, laid the bullshit bare on his most recent mixtape ‘Fxck Rap’ – a brazenly open account of all his struggles and aspirations. Penultimate track I Wish is one of the tape’s most introspective moments and has just got a video simply shot outside the projects and interspersed with clips from two stalwarts of the gritty-but-thoughtful hood drama canon, ‘Menace II Society’ and ‘Boyz n the Hood’.
